HORSEBACK SOCCER – PLAY with your horse!
INTRODUCTORY LESSON PACKAGE
This class will increase communication and partnership between you and your horse in a playful imaginative way. Horses will learn to follow the human’s focus, moving a large ball around the arena with their nose and/or front legs.
The introductory package begins with a private lesson focused on introducing horse and human to the ball. The second lesson will build on the first and introduce some partnering exercises. The last lesson is the “soccer game”. During the “soccer game”, riders will play in pairs passing the ball and moving down the length of the arena toward a large goal.
Minimum group size is four horses, maximum is six. Minimum participant age is 7, no maximum (adults are welcome!!!!). The “soccer game” can be played riding or online (i.e. human on the ground). Sessions will be held in the indoor arena (outdoor arena if weather is amenable). Cost: $80 per participant, ($72 4-H members)
Week 1 – Private Lessons, Week 2 – Group Lesson, Week 3 – Group Lesson
“SOCCER GAME” FORMAT
Participants will be in pairs and the event will be timed. Each participant will get four opportunities to earn points. Completion certificates and placing awards will be given after the game.
Points will be awarded as follows:
5 pts each time a new horse moves the ball 5 pts each goal scored
Opportunities for bonus points -
5 pts participant is riding in a halter (i.e. no bit)
5 pts participant encounters safety/confidence issues & makes choice to play online
Placing:
A team scores 80 pts or more
B team scores 60 pts or more
C team scores 40 pts or more
